Samsung Finally Announces the Reason of Galaxy Note 7 Explosions

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is one of the most criticize phone of 2016. Samsung’s prestige may affected by the biggest battery explosion issue in Galaxy Note 7. Whole world was talking about the battery explosion issue in Galaxy Note 7. But, it was good to know that Samsung has replaced all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices from all around the world.

After long talk and criticize about the Galaxy Note 7, by Samsung Electronics has finally announced the exact reason of why Galaxy Note 7 phone were catching fire. After know the battery explosion issue in Galaxy Note 7, Samsung was continuously working on the exact reason for the Galaxy Note 7 explosion.

Today, Samsung Electronics announced the exact reason of the Galaxy Note 7 incidents and also measures to prevent a recurrence during a press conference held in Seoul, Korea. Samsung has also shared the full detail of the investigation and expressed his sincere apology and gratitude to Galaxy Note7 customers, mobile operators, retail and distribution partners and business partners for their patience and continued support.

Samsung started their investigation with testing the Galaxy Note 7 with focusing on feature abnormalities regarding water resistance, fast charging, wireless charging, the iris scanner, software and the USB Type C, which was tested on more than 200 thousand devices. But, Samsung have not get any issue, after that the company started to closely examine the production process and asked help from 3rd party investigators, including UL, Exponent and TUV Rheinland AG.

The problem was found in the first batteries affected by design flaw in the top corners and upper-right corner, which could come with abnormalities. Another reason was found is Positive and negative electrodes are usually separated by a protective layer. If the protective layer is damaged, the electrodes can meet and cause a short circuit.

What about replacement batteries? Replacement batteries were affected by “abnormally high welding bars that formed during the ultra-sonic welding process to attach the positive tab. Due to the high-welding bars, penetration of the insulation tape and the separator resulted in direct contact with the negative electrode. In addition, we found a number of batteries that were missing the insulation tape.”

According to the 3rd party research firm UL, the affected units show common abnormalities in the same areas.

Samsung also said that company has learned much from the investment that Samsung implemented a broad range of internal quality and safety processes to further enhance product safety including additional protocols such as the multi-layer safety measures and 8-Point Battery Safety Check. Samsung also formed a Battery Advisory Group of external advisers, academic and research experts to ensure it maintains a clear and objective perspective on battery safety and innovation.

“For the last several months, together with independent industry expert organizations, we conducted thorough investigation to find cause to the Galaxy Note7 incidents.” Koh said, “Today, more than ever, we are committed to earning the trust of our customers through innovation that redefines what is possible in safety, and as a gateway to unlimited possibilities and incredible new experiences.”
